He loved to soak in all of the clever details of their collector’s editions, vinyl, and more, and, level-headed as he was, he never Tweeted impatiently at them regarding preorder wait times.
On that day, one particular item caught his eye: It was The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe Collector’s Edition. Stanley had an interest in innovative, cleverly-penned indie games, especially when they playfully merged meta-commentary and ludological twists to build out whip-smart satire on interactive entertainment.
As a result, he was a big fan of developer Crows Crows Crows’ The Stanley Parable, and the Ultra Deluxe edition, with its additive content and unexpected updates, was in particular his favorite version of the game. And this Collector’s Edition seemed like a true celebration of The Stanley Parable’s massive impact on the art form.
Within its premium, delectable box was a world of extra goodies: First off, the game cover itself featured original exclusive cover art by Fatih Oztürk. What’s more, there was a The Stanley Parable: Reassurance Bucket Manual hiding inside, providing Stanley Parable-style instructions on how the purchaser could build their very own commemorative The Stanley Parable Collectible Bucket, using only a common bucket and the (also included) Official Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe Merchandise Sticker. And – what was this? – why, a figure of Stanley himself! How deliciously meta of the Collector’s Edition creators to include a 5” PVC Stanley figurine (also called Figleys, Stanlurines, Mini-Stans, Stanley-Figs, Figlureanlurines, Figanleys, Stiggley-Wiggleys). He couldn’t wait to unpack it and put it on his desk, so he could smile benignly at it and think back on all the fond memories he had built over the years, sitting at his desk.
But what would Stanley listen to, there at that self same desk? Perhaps a digital edition of The Stanley Parable soundtrack, using the code included with this Collector’s Edition! It really did have everything.
